The mother of the viral Sampaguita vendor shared how her children decided to sell Sampaguita so they could help with their family’s finances.

During an interview with DZXL News, the vendor’s mother said that her children would earn P1,000 to P1,500 a day by selling Sampaguita along Ortigas.

In a separate interview, they claim they earn between P1,500 and P2,000 daily.

She said that her children were also working so they could support their education.

“Simula pa noong maliliit sila, ‘yan na ang hanapbuhay namin. Ang mga anak ko, kumikita ng mula P1,000 hanggang P1,500 sa isang araw sa pagtitinda,” she said.

Meanwhile, she admitted that Sampaguita Girl was wearing her old high school uniform

But she clarified that her daughter didn’t intend to mislead people, saying that wearing a uniform would only make them look more presentable.

“Ginagawa niya ‘yan para kumita nang mas malaki at makatulong sa pag-aaral niya,” she said.

When asked why Sampaguita Girl was wearing her old uniform instead of wearing college wear, the mother only said that her daughter only had one uniform for her current school.
