Beauty Gonzalez on Dingdong Dantes: ‘He puts everyone around him at ease’

Beauty Gonzalez said nothing but good words to her ‘I Can See You: AlterNate’ leading man, Dingdong Dantes, whom she described as “the consummate professional and gentleman.”

For Beauty Gonzalez, to be paired with the Primetime King Dingdong Dantes is an experience she won’t ever forget.

She takes pride in being Dingdong’s leading lady in her first primetime show with GMA, I Can See You: AlterNate, where she plays Sheila, the wife of his character–Nate.

According to Beauty, she got to witness Dingdong’s dedication in his craft as he coped with the complexities of his character.

Dingdong, for the first time, plays a dual role in I Can See You: AlterNate. He breathes life to the twins Nate and Michael who have different personalities because of their upbringings. They were adopted by different parents.

Nate lives a comfortable life after a well-off couple adopted him. He is educated, refined, and well-raised. His life seems to be perfect, however, he felt like a part of him was missing. Nate feels love from his adoptive mom but his dad is very tough on him growing up and until now. Hence, he always ends up just saying “yes” and doing whatever his dad says. With this, Nate wishes he was someone else and, true enough, his life starts to change when he finds out that he has a twin brother who is Michael.

Michael is the complete opposite of Nate. He was adopted by a lower middle-class family. He is rough, rugged, and often gets into a brawl. Michael always says how he feels and he is not afraid to be against anyone, unlike Nate. Michael is a con artist.

Because of the contradiction between the primetime actor’s two characters, Beauty noted that she got to see the different sides of Dingdong as an actor.

“It’s like four Dingdongs ’cause each Dingdong has like two personalities and imagine Nate has two personalities and so is Michael. And imagine, ‘pag nag-ark na ‘yung personalities na ‘yon so it’s like four characters so you have to do it twice so it’s six characters all in one,” Beauty said during online bloggers’ conference Kapuso Kwentuhan last January 5.

In the cinematic trailer of I Can See You: AlterNate, it shows that Nate deals with his blindness. This leads him to become depressed and paranoid about Michael and his wife, Sheila, who will find the qualities she is looking for in a partner in her husband’s twin brother. Eventually, she will feel drawn to him.

Beauty admitted that there were times she got carried away with Dingdong’s portrayal.

She went on, “It’s a different kind of experience for me kasi, sa isang araw, iba-ibang tao nakikita ko and sometimes you get used to it already kasi, I mean, I get to character na talaga ang magkakambal kasi sila so sometimes nadadala talaga ako sa character nilang dalawa. ‘Yan ang difficulty but ‘yan ang exciting part if paano namin naitawid ang lahat.”

Having said that, Beauty was able to overcome its difficulty because of the guidance of their director, Dominic Zapata.

Not to mention, she noted how Dingdong also helped her deliver her role well.

In an Instagram post, Beauty said nothing but good words to her current leading man whom she described as “the consummate professional and gentleman” who “puts everyone around him at ease and inspires everyone to do their best on and off cam.”

She also noted how devoted Dingdong is as a family man, and that he is “truly an actor to aspire to.”
