The Lopez family’s ABS-CBN and bilyonaryo Gilberto Duavit Jr.’s GMA Network are still ironing out the details to keep Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis and the “It’s Showtime” crew entertaining Kapuso fans in the noontime slot.
But ultra bilyonaryo Manny Villar is lurking in the wings, with rumors swirling that AllTV, his fledgling network hungry for blockbuster content, is ready to swoop in.
“It’s Showtime” has been airing on AllTV since June this year. It is also airing on A2Z.
A Babbler revealed that discussions to renew the show’s contract, which ends this month, are dragging on due to financial roadblocks. ABS-CBN is reportedly struggling to pay GMA’s hefty block time fees, which have piled up since “It’s Showtime” launched on the Kapuso channel in April. While the show enjoys high ratings and wider reach, ad revenues haven’t kept pace.
Adding to the intrigue, gossip sites speculated that “It’s Showtime” might get replaced by GMA’s “TikToClock,” though management has shot down those rumors.
GMA’s history doesn’t help ABS-CBN’s case either—remember when the network dropped its decades-long partner, TAPE Inc., over unpaid fees for “Eat Bulaga” and “Tahanang Pinakamasaya”?
Will Camille Villar join “It’s Showtime” if it jumps to ALLTV as its main channel?
