India captain Rohit Sharma was shocked after Virat Kohli opted to not use DRS after given out in the second innings of the 1st Test vs Bangladesh. Kohli was given LBW by Rod Tucker in the 20th over of the match off Mehdy Hasan’s bowling. After being given out, Kohli pondered about taking the DRS but ended up deciding against it.
The replays on the screen showed that Kohli had caught a big inside edge while playing ball, which came as a massive surprise. India captain Rohit Sharma, who was watching the game from the dressing room looked shocked and exclaimed ‘bat tha yaar’ after checking the replay of the delivery.
Umpire Richard Kettleborough, standing at square leg gave a sheepish smile after watching the replay on the big screen. On the day, Virat Kohli was looking in good touch after falling early in the first innings of the game. Kohli had scored 17 runs off 37 balls and also crossed the 12,000-run milestone for India in home conditions.
After Kohli’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant saw off the rest of the balls and kept the Indian team steady at 81/3. India took a massive 300+ run lead at the end of Day 2 of the first Test match. Apart from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal also fell in the second innings of the Chennai Test.
Fans reacted to Kohli’s dismissal in horror and partly blamed Shubman Gill for not convincing Kohli to take the DRS. Shubman had advised Kohli took take the DRS initially. Kohli pondered till the very end of the DRS timer and decided to save one of the reviews.
At the end of Day 2 of the Test match India had a lead of 308 runs. Ravindra Jadeja spoke to the broadcaster after the match and said that the wicket was a very good one to bat one, but fast bowlers were getting help with the odd delivery.
