The Koshigaya Alphas dedicated their close win over the Chiba Jets on Sunday to their injured star center Kai Sotto.

The Alphas stunned the Jets in an emotional 91-89 triumph in the Japan B.League’s 2024-25 season all thanks to Inoue Soichiro’s 17 points which included the game-winning three-pointer in the end game as well as three rebounds and three steals.

This pushed Koshigaya’s record to 9-21 in the team standings, and they are hoping to get more inspired play as the 7-foot-2 Sotto will be missing the whole year due to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury which he sustained last week.

This also meant that Sotto will be out of Gilas Pilipinas’ assignments for the entirety of 2025 which includes the last window of the Asia Cup Qualifiers as well as the tourney itself later this year.

Meanwhile, Matthew Wright and the Kawasaki Brave Thunders finally returned to the win column after they defeated the Fighting Eagles Nagoya, 73-66, at the Nagoya Shi Inae Sports Center.

The former Phoenix Fuel Masters gunner fired 19 markers with a pair each of assists and steals, a rebound, and a block.

This win allowed Kawasaki to improve to 8-22 and sit in eighth place in the central division.

Unfortunately, much like the past Saturday, the rest of the Filipino imports were dealt with losses on Sunday.Dwight Ramos and Levanga Hokkaido were dominated by the Kyoto Hannaryz, 84-68, at the Hokkai Kita-Yale.

Ramos had a quiet performance of five points, three assists, two rebounds, and a steal, and this did not help their cause as they fell to 10-20, enough for fifth in the Eastern Division.

Ray Parks Jr. and Osaka Evessa also faltered in their latest outing as they were outlasted by the Gunma Crane Thunders, 75-71, at the Ookini Arena Maishama.

Parks Jr. put up nine markers, four boards, and three dimes in the loss that sent them to fourth place in the Western Division with a 15-15 record.

Roosevelt Adams and the Yamagata Wyverns also fell short of finding their way back into the win column as they were trounced by the Toyama Grouses, 86-75, at the Yamagata Prefectural Sports Park.

Adams finished with 15 points, a rebound, an assist, and a block, but these went to waste for they were handed their 20th defeat in 32 appearances.

Lastly, Geo Chiu and the Ehime Orange Vikings added another loss for they were dumped by the Aomori Wat’s, 90-83, at the Kakuhiro Group Super Arena.

Chiu only appeared for 38 seconds in their 31st defeat in 32 games.
