Sen. Imee Marcos Explains Absence at Alyansa Campaign Rally in Tacloban

IMEE MARCOS – The Senator apologized for skipping the campaign rally of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago in Tacloban as she cannot accept what was done to former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.



The arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte gained different reactions from the Filipinos. The incumbent politicians also have different reactions to the unexpected turn of events since the former Chief Executive arrived from Hong Kong on Monday.

Duterte was arrested following the reported release of a warrant of arrest against him issued by the International Criminal Court. The arrest warrant is due to the allegations of crimes against humanity over the previous administration’s war on drugs.

The ICC welcomed the arrest and transfer of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the Netherlands. He is set to appear before the pre-trial chamber today. Amid the arrest of the former President, Pres. Bongbong Marcos earned a lot of criticisms from the Duterte supporters.

For his part, Pres. Bongbong Marcos justified the arrest of Duterte saying the government is just doing its job. According to him, the government assisted in the arrest of the former President not because the warrant came from the ICC but because of its commitment to the Interpol.

Marcos Jr. also denied that the arrest is a political move saying that the issue between Duterte and the ICC has long started even before he became president. On claims that the President could have blocked the arrest, Malacañang said that the events were the prerogative of the government.

Marcos Jr. is endorsing the senatorial bets of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago in the 2025 Elections. The Dutertes have their own senatorial bets under the PDP-Laban. Sen. Imee Marcos is one of the bets of the grand alliance.

However, today, Sen. Imee Marcos skipped the campaign rally of the Alyansa in Tacloban. She apologized to the Warays for not coming to the campaign sortie saying she cannot accept what was done to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.

In her post, Sen. Imee Marcos stated that she is studying the events leading to the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte in the pursuit of coming up with a realistic solution over the arrest of the former President.

Amid the unexpected turn of events, Sen. Bato dela Rosa admitted feeling betrayed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos over the arrest of Duterte. He even tagged it as “betrayal to the max”.
