1: Marigolds

I mention marigolds frequently in my articles because they’re genuinely gorgeous and productive at the same time. I have tons of marigolds in my own backyard garden.
They’re perfectly round, vibrant, and offer beautiful, contrasting foliage that really lets their colors pop. Plus their strong scent drives pests out of the garden. Sow your marigold seeds directly in the garden outdoors around mid to late March.
2: Zinnias

To me, zinnias look like a mix of roses and marigolds, except they have a broader color palette and are much more vibrant overall. You’ll find zinnias with crimson, yellow, orange, purple, and off-white round blooms that never fail to grab attention even from afar.
Start zinnias in March once the soil is warm enough as they prefer slightly warmer temperatures for ideal growth.
3: Cosmos

In terms of planting, sow your cosmos seeds as late in the month of March as possible. Warm conditions with lots of sunlight are necessary for their optimal growth.
4: Sunflowers

Like cosmos, you want to wait till the end of March to sow your sunflower seeds directly into the ground outdoors. Planting before that poses the risk of frost and cold damage that can kill your sunflower seedlings in no time.
5: Nasturtiums

Nasturtiums work surprisingly well as a pest-repellent companion plant in the garden. Some gardeners even plant them as a trap crop so that pests and insects divert their attention to this sacrificial plant rather than attacking the main crops.
Because March can still be very cold for nasturtiums, it’s better to start nasturtium seeds indoors in March and transplant seedlings outdoors once the soil starts warming up properly.
6: Snapdragons

Snapdragons love chilly weather. They thrive in it and should be planted in early to mid February for the best growth. Since snapdragon blooms open and shut when squeezed, if you have kids at home, they may find this one quite fun and it’s a great way to get them into the garden.
7: Pansies

Pansies are one of those flowers that seem to pop up everywhere in early spring, and for good reason! They thrive in cool weather and put on a cheerful display when most other flowers are still waking up.
Start pansy seeds indoors in early to mid-February for a head start, or sow them directly outside in late March if the ground is workable.
While they prefer the cooler temperatures of spring and fall, with a little afternoon shade and regular watering, you can stretch their bloom time well into early summer.
8: Petunias

Petunias are another flower variety that’s frequently mentioned in a lot of my articles.
Surprisingly though, I never had that many petunias in my backyard as I’m not really a big fan of their velvety thin blooms, but I know many gardeners who absolutely adore them, so to each their own I guess.
Start petunia seeds indoors between late February to early March and transplant seedlings outdoors once the risk of frost completely passes. Stretching out the growing season also allows for better, more vibrant flower development.
9: Coneflowers

From a distance, coneflowers resemble sunflowers, except their petals are pulled backward and the dark center sticks out like a cone. You’ll find coneflowers in a variety of different colors like pink, purple, violet, red, orange, and sometimes even a mix of two bright colors.
It’s best to sow coneflower seeds directly outdoors late in March to save yourself the hassle of starting seeds and transplanting them.
Conclusion
Since the month of February is already coming to an end, the flowers I suggested for March planting are what you should really look into right now. It’s also important to care for them properly and fulfill important requirements like water, fertilization, and light for complete growth. Don’t overlook those!
