Jericho in between takes Lavender Fields

With how outstandingly handsome, talented, and admirable he is, there’s indeed no wonder why Jericho Rosales is widely adored in the almost three decades that he has been in the local entertainment scene.

We know how truly passionate he is in the craft, not to mention a sought-after actor, so it really came as a surprise when he made a shocking pronouncement a few years ago that he no longer wanted to do teleseryes anymore after his remarkable stint in the 2018 controversial series, “Halik.” However, he retracted it as he’s now part of the Kapamilya series “Lavender Fields,” catching and breaking hearts anew as he exceptionally plays the double-dealing character Tyrone De Vera, also known as Arthur Pelaez.

For sure, many are curious to find out what caused him to change his mind, which he divulged in his exclusive interview with Bianca Gonzalez for Cinema One’s online talk show, “The B Side.”

He told Bianca, “I love it, really. When they offered this to me, may usapan kami with our creative supervisor, Joel Mercado, I said, ‘Don’t be scared. Write what you wanna write. If he needs to be bad, he’s bad, but with one condition: it’s not comical bad. It’s like bad because there’s a reason why he needs to be bad. Every person on this planet, however bad that person is, may konsensya ‘yan,” he said when asked what made him agree to do it.”

Aside from the fact that Tyrone is a fairly complicated character with two personas, viewers were not able to learn much about him because his character only had a brief appearance on the show in the beginning. Thus, he hinted about the much-awaited comeback of his character on the show, through which viewers will be able to learn more about him and find out his motivations in carrying out the things that he had done.

While Echo, as he’s fondly called by people close to him, is admired in real life, the same cannot be said about him in “Lavender Fields” because of the choices he made that took a toll on other people, which include his wife, Iris (Janine Gutierrez), and his mistress, Jasmine (Jodi Sta. Maria).

When asked by Bianca if his character will have a redeeming factor, he responded that he didn’t want to give it away, yet there is one thing for sure: that Tyrone is really torn between doing what he knows is right and staying in the unscrupulous life where he’s able to achieve everything that he wants.

“He’s a man, a character, who always makes the wrong decisions, and he pays for that. It’s simple things that he wants, and ang laki ng price para sa kanya. So, kumbaga, he asks for something in life; he gets it, then ayaw niya na pala. So, binabalik niya. Gusto niya ng power, ng magandang buhay, kumapit siya sa patalim. Eh ayaw na niya. It’s hard to correct that, right? And the price to pay is huge,” he expounded.

Aside from being able to bring viewers to a rollercoaster ride of emotions due to the complexity of his character, the Asian Drama King also loves it that Tyrone/Arthur is unique from the previous roles that he portrayed. Besides, he also finds it fascinating that all the little details of his relationship with other characters, such as Jasmine, Iris, and Vittorio (Edu Manzano), are all interconnected.

After all, he admitted that he would not have accepted this project if he knew that there’s “nothing more to work on or nothing to work with.” Apparently, he thinks that “Lavender Fields” is worth changing his plans for.

Lastly, when asked to respond to a fan’s question regarding what he usually does on the set in between takes, he disclosed that he continues to work while also unleashing his innate kakulitan, trying not to be annoying. He does this by goofing around as he mingled with people on the set and swinging by the dressing rooms of his co-stars to invite them to throw lines or rehearse scenes with him.
