Teen star Janine Gutierrez has been asked many times if she is keen on joining beauty pageants; and her answer has always been no. Find out what she is really passionate about in this interview with tabloid!.

Q. Can anyone convince you at all to join a beauty pageant?

A. I knew you would ask that. I don’t really want to join. I am just not cut out for it. I am flattered that people think I am beauty queen material. Even Tita Ruffa (Gutierrez, who was Miss World 2nd Princess in 1993) told me I have a winning chance; still I think I am not for it.

Q. Is that your final answer?

A. [Laughs] Yes.

Q. You have the looks and the brains for it. Why not?

A. I just honestly think it is not for me.

Q. You speak several languages fluently, having graduated with a European Studies degree from a prestigious university. Why not?

A. [Laughs] I am so used to prying questions like this by now. I think I don’t have the confidence for it.

Q. But that is something that can be improved?

A. I guess so; but at the moment, it’s really a no. I would rather focus on my acting career. When I was young, I never thought about being an actress; but now that I’m doing it, I’ve fallen in love with it. It’s the challenge of getting better that is keeping me going. So I want to concentrate on that and hopefully I get better at it.

Q. What is your dream role?

A. That would be a crazy person or a mermaid. That’s just what came to mind first. But as an actress, I’d like to explore a variety of roles, to kind of challenge myself. I still have a lot to learn — acting is a very challenging and complex profession. That is why I would like to keep my focus on honing my talent as an actress before I can consider thinking of something else. Though, I guess I cannot join a beauty pageant by the time I’m 30. [Laughs].

Q. The question on most people’s mind is, are you and Elmo Magalona (co-star in Villa Quintana) really an item?

A. We’re special to each other. We’re not a couple, but we do enjoy each other’s company.

Q. Is there a chance that you will eventually be a couple?

A. There’s no predicting what will happen, but if there is a chance, there will always be that chance. For people who work closely together, there is always that possibility of intimacy — as friends, or something more. So yes.
