Janine Gutierrez shares why she calls Paulo Avelino a ‘bully’ on the set

After first being paired up together on a movie project before the pandemic, Janine Gutierrez said doing a teleserye together with Paulo Avelino was just previously wishful thinking on her part. Now, not only does their show have a second season but their onscreen pairing has gained a faithful fandom as well.

“I’m super happy talaga, sinabi ko talaga kay Pau na I’m happy na he did this show with me kasi talagang winish ko ito before pa nung ginawa namin yung pelikula. Na niloloko ko siya na sana makapag-teleserye kami eventually and I’m so happy it happened. I’m just really grateful that we were able to do this together,” she shared during the Marry Me Marry You mediacon last November 10.

Even offscreen, Janine said she and Paulo exchange a lot of playful barbs at each other, all in good fun. This is what led to her latest discovery about Paulo’s personality offcam.

“Nung ginawa namin yung pelikula hindi pa masyadong bully si Paulo. Pero dito sa show talagang lumabas yung tunay niyang pagkatao. Char (laughs). Masaya. Super, super saya talaga to work with Pau and Jake (Ejercito) kasi palagi nila kaming pinapakain and pagdating sa mga eksena nagtutulungan kami. Sobrang laking tulong nila sa akin. Pero yun talaga yung pinaka na-discover ko, talagang ang hirap talunin ni Paulo sa pang-aasar. Si Jake bully din. Bully as in promise. Ewan ko ba. Ang hirap. Bully din. Pero in fairness, binusog din ako ng dalawang yan. palagi silang may pakain at sobrang saya nila kasama (laughs), “ she admitted.

All jokes aside, Janine said she has full respect for her Marry Me Marry You co-star when it comes to working professionally.

“Gusto ko nga sana mapikon siya pero hindi ko ma-achieve (laughs). Pero siyempre there’s this pressure na kailangan masabayan mo siya. Pero si Pau he’s really generous talaga when it comes to sharing when it comes to his talent. Feeling ko magaling na director yan si Pau eh, if ever he chooses to do that. So masaya talaga siya ka-eksena,” she said.

Janine said she is excited for next year as she and Paulo are scheduled to travel to the US together as part of a series of shows on the West coast starting in late March.

“Sobrang grateful talaga ako na parang Marry Me Marry You ang naging introduction ko sa mga kapamilya natin abroad. It’s my first show sa ABS-CBN and with that sa TFC at sobrang nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng kapamilya na nanunuod at nagti-tweet sa amin gabi-gabi and nagpapa-trend ng show. I’ super excited din na magkaka-show kami sa US next year. I’m really looking forward to it and sobrang thank you lang talaga sa lahat ng kapamilya na na-e-enjoy yung palabas namin,” she added.

Marry Me Marry You airs weeknights with its second season starting November 15 at an earlier timeslot at 8:40 pm on the Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, TV5, and Kapamilya Online Live on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
