Aegis Vocalist Mercy Sunot Laid to Rest

MERCY SUNOT – The renowned vocalist of the Filipino band Aegis, was laid to rest on December 12, 2024, after her passing in San Francisco, California, on November 18, 2024. Her death marked the end of an extraordinary career in music, leaving her family, friends, and many fans deeply saddened.

Her remains were brought back to the Philippines on December 8, and her wake was held the following day at her family’s home in Carmona, Cavite. Mercy’s siblings, Juliet and Ken Sunot, along with her fellow band members, personally prepared her for her final journey, a heartfelt act showing their deep love and respect for her.

Several figures from the entertainment industry visited to express their sympathy and support. Willie Revillame, the host of Wil To Win, was one of the first to pay his respects, followed by fellow entertainers Maila Gumila and Lyca Gairanod.

Mercy’s health condition came as a shock. During routine medical tests for an overseas trip, it was discovered that she had breast cancer, though it had not spread. Later tests in the U.S. revealed that she also had lung and bone cancer.

Despite her diagnosis, Mercy remained committed to her love for music. When doctors suggested she undergo intubation, she initially refused, worried that it would affect her voice. She reportedly said, “Hindi ako puwedeng magpa-intubate kasi masisira ang boses ko. Gagaling pa ako.” However, she later agreed after being informed that it would be difficult for her to breathe without it.

Mercy Sunot passed away at the age of 48, leaving behind her two children, a son and a daughter. Her remains were briefly held at Cypress Chapel in Colma, California, before being returned to the Philippines. Mercy Sunot’s powerful voice, strength, and lasting impact on her loved ones and fans will continue to be remembered and cherished.
