Bea Alonzo knows how to outwit her bashers, with confidence and class.
The 34-year-old actress clapped back at a netizen who told her she’s “too old” for sexy endorsements, particularly the one where she posed as the calendar girl of liquor brand Tanduay.
Bea cleared the air in her YouTube vlog titled “Reacting to Mean Tweets About Me,” which she uploaded last March 12.
In her vlog, the GMA star read one tweet that said, “Isn’t it too late for you to be doing this endorsement? Watching it you’re old to be a model for this commercial may kulubot ka na.”
When Bea’s endorsement was launched by the brand on November 23 last year, the actress admitted she deemed it to be the right time.
In the brand’s video uploaded that day, Bea said the project was initially offered to her after the shooting of her film One More Chance in 2007.
She explained, “At that time, I wasn’t ready yet. I was at that point in my life where I wasn’t that confident yet, and parang hindi siya aligned sa kung anong gusto kong mangyari at that point in my life.”
“So when I was asked the second time, everything was just falling into place,” she continued. “I felt empowered, I felt like I was ready for change, and I was ready. I couldn’t really think of a reason why I shouldn’t do it, so I said yes.”
Bea hasn’t changed her mind since then as she answered the netizen who sent her hate, with clarity and coolness.
“Actually alam niyo, it’s about time na tigilan ng mga tao na mag-shame ng mga tao na nagkaka-edad,” she said in her vlog.
“I’m 34 years old, and I’m about to turn 35 and I’m proud of it. I take care of myself as much as I can — I exercise, I eat healthy. Parang feeling ko proud ako sa itsura ko at 34 years old.”
“And kinuha ako ng certain brand that was actually very flattering for me kasi ‘di ko naman pinipilit sarili ko para kunin ako so I’m proud of it,” she said, noting, “Let’s stop shaming people for their age. It’s 2022!”
At the end of her video, Bea provided enlightenment to her fans who, like her, could be facing criticisms and negative comments in their daily lives.
“Alam mo sa totoo lang, marami talagang mga bitter and mean tweets or comments, but mas marami talaga ‘yung positive [about you]. Masmadaling pumasok sa utak mo na you’re great, beautiful, magaling ka sa ginagawa mo,” she said.
“For me to be grounded all the time, hindi ko ‘yun pinapasok sa ulo ko. Kahit ‘yung mga bitter and mean tweets because I know who I am and I am surrounded with the most beautiful people that I can ask for and they keep me grounded,” Bea added.
“Alam mo yung ina-abosrb ko lang yung sinasabi nila [as] constructive criticism? Hindi masamang aminin na meron kang mga mali or meron kang mga kahinan kasi there is nothing to be ashamed of,” she concluded.
