Actor and singer James Reid had nothing but good words and wishes for actress Liza Soberano after confirming her departure from his label Careless Music.

In an interview with MJ Felipe, James shared his support for Liza who is currently working on producing projects and auditioning in the US for her Hollywood career.

“It’s been great working with her. And, you know, we wish her all of the best for her plans in the US and her career,” James said.

He went on: “Even though she’s no longer managed by us, she’ll come back here to the Philippines especially with the Careless team. We’ll always be here for her.”

In 2022, Liza signed under James’s label after announcing her plans to expand her career as a solo artist and to enter the Hollywood scene.

When asked what was the reason for Liza’s decision to leave his management, James revealed that it was the difference in paths and goals that they had which both the artists respected.

“We have different, I guess, career paths. She’s more focused on her US career, going to Hollywood, all of that. And we’re more focused on the Philippines. Music, local,” he explained.

James also said that the actress has been very active and collaborative on what would be her plans to achieve her goals as an artist herself.

“Actually, Liza’s been very proactive with her career ever since she joined Careless. She has a very clear idea of where she wants to go with her career and everything. And towards the end, basically, she manages herself,” James said.

He added, “And, you know, now that she’s in the US, it makes sense that Careless is no longer in the picture, which I’m okay with.”

On September 14, Careless Music Management announced that Liza was no longer under their label after two years.

“We decided to make this statement because there are a lot of rumors that she’s no longer Careless. So we decided to release the statement just to confirm it, so there’s no confusion,” James said.

“It’s her decision to leave Careless,” he continued.

As per the announcement, the contract between them had already ended on July 29 this year.

“Liza Soberano is no longer under Careless Music Management effective July 29, 2024,” the statement read. “It has been a pleasure to have represented her and we wish her the best in all of her endeavors.”

James then shared what his agreement between the artists signed under his label management.

“Actually, in all the contracts and agreements I have with my artists, there’s a termination for convenience, close, at any time. You can leave as long as I agree, and I agreed,” James told ABS-CBN News.

James also shared that his “talent-manager relationship” with Liza is more of “helping” her from the start and letting her do and execute her plans on her own later on.

“You know, I don’t like to see myself as her boss. It’s more like I’m an artist that’s managing myself, and I was helping her with my resources and with my team to help her manage her own career. So, I never really felt like, you know, I was making decisions for her,” he expressed.

“Actually, our agreement from the beginning was very loose. I didn’t make her famous. She was Liza Soberano already when she came on board, which is why I was so flexible,” James remarked.
