‘Extreme Desire To Do Well’: Sanjay Bangar Lauds Virat Kohli For His ‘Process’ Of Scoring Double Hundreds

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has praised Virat Kohli’s process of converting starts into big scores, which helped him score a whopping seven double hundreds in Tests. The year 2016 was the most staggering for him in terms of runs, as he was scoring them at all venues across the world with aplomb and bowlers could just stand and watch.
Kohli has struck seven double-hundreds in his Test career. His first double century was against West Indies in Antigua in July 2016, which was followed by one against New Zealand in October of the same year.
As surprising as it may be, six of these seven double-hundreds came in 17 months, as there was no stopping Kohli from scoring runs.

“There was a time when he said to me that he has not made any double hundred. And after a while, there is a process by which he can make double hundreds and once he achieved it, once he tasted it, I think he had some 4-5 double hundreds in one season. So that was all possible because of his extreme desire to do well and test himself,” Bangar said while speaking on The Rao Podcast.
Kohli was unstoppable during that period from 2016 to 2019. In 43 Tests in those years, he scored 4208 runs. He scored the second double hundred of his India career, scoring 211 against New Zealand three months later in October 2016, but reserved his best for when England came to India.
Kohli’s third double-hundred was a 235-run knock against England at his happy hunting ground in Mumbai. He started 2017 pretty much the same way he ended 2016, scoring another double hundred, 204 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, the fourth of his career.
Kohli will next be seen in action against Bangladesh in a two-Test series beginning September 19 in Chennai.
