About ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest
President Bongbong Marcos clarified in a press conference that the arrest of the former president was according to the necessary legal procedure. The interpol asked for it, and as part of the community of nations, the Philippines is expected to cooperate.
It did not violate the country’s sovereignty. Marcos said, “Interpol asked for help, and we obliged because we have commitments to Interpol which we have to fulfill. If we don’t do that, they will no longer help us with other cases involving Filipino fugitives abroad.”
The Palace also addressed Duterte’s arrest, and accordingly, this is to give justice to either the victims or the accused. The arrest complied with the law due to allegations associated with EJK during his administration’s drug war.
