Judy Ann Santos Eases Into Married Life

Drama queen Judy Ann Santos loves everything about marriage–from making mistakes to appreciating every little cheesy cliche.

Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo’s much talked about wedding was the stuff fairy tales are made of. The ceremony has been described as straightforward, but it is more exquisite and painstakingly organized than simple. You’d expect the couple’s life as husband and wife to be just as a glamorous; instead, it is pretty much what you’d expect from the couple—uncomplicated, unpretentious, and “bargas bargas lang lagi.”

Wala namang nagbago sa amin. Parang feeling namin we’ve been together for almost four years before we got married,” Judy Ann said. She adds that they plan to keep the romance alive by being happy—or being pretty much how they were when they were not yet married. “What kept the love alive is, we’re always happy, we’re always laughing.”

Their honesty also keeps them much closer. “We’re open and we’re very honest with each other. Open ako sa mga binibigay niyang suggestions when it comes to basic things like styling myself when going out or kung paano ko babaguhin ‘yung buhok ko, ‘yung mga ganun,” Judy Ann elaborates.

Much like the persona she presents onscreen, Judy Ann readily admits her faults. In this case, she is quick to say that she depends on Ryan. For instance, when it comes to dressing up: “[Masmarami siyang alam kesa sa ‘kin, wala talaga akong alam sa pagbibihis. Hindi ko kayang tumayo sa sarili kong mga paa. Siya lagi ‘yung katuwang ko sa mga ganyan.”[nextpage]

But while the couple maintains their cheerful outlook in their relationship, Judy Ann admits that their marriage made her realize how the cliches about married life are true. “Best thing is waking up every morning seeing the face of the person na makakasama [mo] nang pang-habang buhay…Very cheesy kasi before ‘pag nakakabasa [ka ng gan’un, pero] totoo pala. Totoo palang makaka-relate ka lang sa ganoong linya ‘pag dumating ka na sa moment na ‘yun ng buhay mo,” she said.

“And aside from waking up every morning na masaya ‘yung pakiramdam, you’ll know that you’ll be cooking for someone [and] have a friend na andyan lagi. Barkada talaga kasi kami from the very beginning.”

Surprisingly, the couple spends more time apart now that they’re married. “Well, before kasi I used to watch him sa drifting competition. But what we do now is, after ng competition maiiwan na ako sa bahay, ‘di na ‘ko manonood.” Which means more “alone time” for the award-winning actress.

Napapabayaan naman niya ako e,” she said. And when Ryan does leave her alone, she does what most girls do—pamper herself. “‘Pag sinabi kong may beauty day ako, may kikay day ako. I’ll go to the derma, magpapa-wax ako, magpapalinis ako ng nails, kasama na din dun ‘yung magsho-shopping ako kahit papaano. Siyempre may rewards naman ako, siya ‘yung credit card ko e.”
