Self-proclaimed ‘husband’ of Kris Aquino now wants to marry Imee Marcos

MANILA — (UPDATED) Aspiring to run on a platform of “salary increase” and signing his own recording contract, a perennial applicant for election candidacy is also setting sights on a union with a possible colleague in the Senate.

Daniel Magtira previously claimed to be the “husband” of screen superstar and political scion Kris Aquino when he filed his certificates of candidacy (COC) for senator and president in past election seasons.

Filing a COC anew for senator on Tuesday (October 1), Magtira noted Aquino’s absence — the actress-host has been on long-term treatment for her autoimmune conditions — and why he now wants to be married to a member of another political family.

“Si Kris Aquino, lagi siyang wala, na sa ano ata, sa ibang planeta… Kaya pakakasalan ko na lang, si Imee Marcos,” he said, referring to the incumbent senator who is seeking re-election.

Aside from declaring his romantic intentions, Magtira also took his turn on the podium as an opportunity to showcase his singing talent, saying his platform includes clinching a recording contract for himself.

DISQUALIFYING A CANDIDATE

On Wednesday afternoon, Comelec spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco explained the grounds to declare one candidate as nuisance have lessened following decisions of the Supreme Court (SC) on the matter.

The SC, he explained, has ruled that lack of funds to mount a nationwide campaign, popularity or lack of a political party cannot be considered as grounds to declare one as nuisance candidate.

“Bagamat lumiit po ang ating pagkakataon sa law department na makapaghanap ng dahilan para ma-declare na nuisance candidate, meron pa rin namang dalawang natira para ma-determine na ikaw ay bona fide na kakandidato,” Laudiangco said.

He explained: “Tingnan namin ano ang actuations mo nu’ng nag-file ka ng COC. Naiintindihan mo ba ang tinatakbong posisyon? ‘Yun bang mga ipinangako mo ay nasasaklaw ng posisyon na gusto mo takbuhan? Kasi maaaring nagpa-file ka ng senador ngunit ‘yung sinasabi mo naman na trabaho hindi para sa senador.
