Celebrity daughter and entrepreneur KC Concepcion confirmed she is no longer following her stepfather, former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and half-sister Frankie Pangilinan on Instagram (IG), citing common relationship problems that happen between members in a blended family.

Kiko and Frankie likewise did the same to her on their respective IG accounts. KC, meanwhile, is still following her younger half-sister Miel, but the latter is not following her back. It is not clear who unfollowed first but the situation stirred speculations online that their family are having some issues.

KC initially kept mum when it made the rounds on social media and other entertainment websites. But in an exclusive interview over the program “Cristy Ferminute” on One PH and Radyo 5 on Aug. 29, the 38-year-old singer-actress has broken her silence.

Kapag showbiz po talaga, ano, tita, lahat parang lumalaki (Everything really seems to be a big deal when you’re in showbiz, right, auntie),” she told veteran entertainment journalist Cristy Fermin, reacting to the weird attention that netizens are showbiz fans are paying over such matters.

Hindi naman po masama na magkaroon ng time na meron kayong ina-unfollow or meron kayong i-fo-follow. Mahirap lang po talaga kapag showbiz po ‘yung family, talagang lahat pinupuna po (There is nothing wrong when you unfollow or follow someone. But it gets difficult when your family is in show business; everything is noticed),” KC added.

Like any other family, KC said theirs is not perfect. Complicating things is the fact that they are in a blended family. “Meron din po talaga na mga times na hindi perfect. Hindi po kami perpekto and hindi po laging kailangan perfect.

She declined to elaborate her answers and simply told Fermin that she did it for her own happiness and “peace of mind.”

Wala naman po akong gustong ikuwento pa (I don’t want to tell more) apart from the fact na, ako, (that) I just want peace of mind. I want to be happy. I want my family to be happy. Ang gusto ko lang is maging light, maging masaya. Ayoko ng maraming (I just want to feel light and happy. I don’t want any) drama,” she explained.

She also talked about the importance of “forgiveness” among family members for relationships to be OK, but she would like to sometimes choose what’s best for her mental health.

KC then went on to discuss how she feels having done her part to be a good daughter to her parents and all her half-siblings, not only from the side of her mother Sharon Cuneta, but also her father Gabby Concepcion.

She also noted the need to work together to maintain a healthy relationship, adding “kung meron man akong pagkukulang o pagkakamali kahit saan, sa tingin ko mabibilang sa isang kamay lang ‘yon (If I ever have shortcomings or mistakes, I think you can count them with just one hand).”

“I did everything that my family wanted for me. I finished college. I worked. I took care of my career. I am loving the people. I really do everything to be a good daughter, a good sister,” KC said mainly in Filipino.

But now that she is in her late 30s, KC said she wants to prioritize her own mental health and what is good for her peace of mind. She acknowledged there are things beyond her control. At the moment, she is focusing on the upcoming concert of her parents, Sharon and Gabby.

If for other people, it is just an entertainment event, KC looks at it on a more personal level because it was her dream to see her parents reunited with no bad blood against each other. She is the only daughter of the erstwhile showbiz power couple.

Sharon and Gabby got married in 1984, but separated three years later. Their marriage was annulled in 1993. Both of them eventually re-married: Cuneta to Pangilinan in 1996; Concepcion to Jenny Syquia (1993 to 1996) and Genevieve Yatco Gonzales (2004 to present).

All in all, KC has three half-siblings from Sharon (including youngest brother Miguel) and four half-sisters from Gabby (including one with his former partner Grace Ibuna). Asked if she will have a participation in the concert, the eldest Concepcion daughter answered “sana po (I hope).”

Fermin then went on to inquire about her relationship with her mother to which KC replied: “Bata pa lang ako, best friend ko na ‘yan si mama. (Ever since I was a child, mama has been my best friend),” adding that no one and nothing can separate them.

Despite their family problems, KC wants her mother to know that she loves her as much as she loved her grandmother, the late Elaine Cuneta. In February this year, Sharon was quoted as saying that her relationship with her eldest daughter was her “biggest pain.”

The celebrity mother-daughter pair reportedly had recurring cracks in their relationship, but they seemed to have always patched things up with both denying all kinds of rumors and other unfounded claims, which were allegedly intended to break their bond.

Malalaman din ni mama kung gaano ko siya kamahal pagdating ng panahon. Wala nang ibang mas pwedeng magmahal sa kanya kung paano ko siya kayang mahalin (Mom will know how much I love her when the time comes. No one can love her as much as I do),” KC said of her mother.

KC admits she makes mistakes like every other daughter. And while she does her best to improve, sometimes she prefers to stay quiet instead of defending herself against baseless accusations. “Because I would rather let people, my family see my heart, who I really am,” she said.

KC is gearing up for her new movie “Asian Persuasion,” which will be shown in the United States and here in the Philippines. She is also busy with her jewelry business and other personal and professional endeavors.
