A convoy was stopped by the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation of the Department of Transportation.

This happened after the vehicles were caught illegally using the EDSA Busway.

In a cellphone video shown on GMA 7’s ’24 Oras,’ courtesy of SAICT, the driver claimed they were security personnel for former senator Manny Pacquiao.

The driver initially said they would pull over, but instead, they quickly sped away from the scene.

The vehicles were using unauthorized blinkers and sirens.

The van eventually came back for the tickets for disregarding traffic signs and illegal use of blinkers.

Several Philippine politicians have recently been involved in controversies related to the misuse of the EDSA Busway.

In January 2025, Quezon City 2nd District Representative Ralph Wendel Tulfo’s convoy was apprehended for illegally using the restricted lane. He issued a public apology, acknowledged his mistake, paid the corresponding fine, and committed to attending a required seminar.

Similarly, in April 2024, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s vehicle, which carried a protocol plate for senators, was caught using the EDSA Busway. He admitted to an “abuse of protocol,” apologized for the incident, and clarified that the vehicle was driven by a family member’s driver at the time.

Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson also faced consequences in April 2024 when his convoy was fined for traveling along a section of EDSA reserved for buses of the EDSA Carousel. While Singson apologized and paid the fine, his offer of a reward to the traffic inspectors who intercepted him later raised ethical concerns.

These incidents emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, regardless of one’s position, to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law.
