The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an interaction of head coach Gautam Gambhir and star batter Virat Kohli on the BCCI TV on Wednesday (September 18). The interview has taken the internet by storm with the two legends of Indian legends making some astonishing revelations during the course of their chat.
While answering a question that Kohli posed to Gambhir, the ex-India opener recalled what Kohli had told him after an incredible run with the bat during India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia in 2014. Kohli top-scored for India in that series, scoring 692 runs and Gambhir recalled Kohli telling him that he chanted ‘Om Namah Shivay’ before every ball he faced in that series.
“I remember when you had that bumper series in Australia where you scored heaps and heaps of runs, you telling me that you kept saying ‘Om Namah Shivay’ before every delivery,” Gambhir said while talking to Virat Kohli for BCCI TV.
“For me, that’s exactly what happened when I played in Napier. I batted for 2-and-half days,” Gambhir said.
“I don’t think I could have ever done that again. The only thing I did for those 2-and-a-half days was listen to Hanuman Chalisa,” the southpaw added.
We Have Come A Long Way: Virat Kohli
Notably, Kohli started the interaction by saying that the two of them have come a long way from an innings-reviving third-wicket partnership for Team India in the ODI World Cup 2011 final to now one of them being coach and the other being the leading India batter.
While Kohli did mention the ‘ups and downs’ that they have shared, Gambhir was quick to point out that it was all in ‘good spirits’. Kohli will return to Test cricket action with the India vs Bangladesh Test series beginning on September 19. The series is also the first red-ball assignment for Gambhir as the head coach.
