Virat Kohi was the focal point of India’s training session in Chennai, with just four days left for the first Test match of the India-Bangladesh series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium from Thursday (September 19). Kohli had a tense battle with Jasprit Bumrah while also getting a tough test from a net bowler.

With the first Test match between India and Bangladesh just four days away, the Rohit Sharma-led side have sharpened their preperations for the start of a hectic Test season in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Virat Kohli was at the centre of action as he prepares to make a comeback after nine months to red-ball cricket.

For those unversed, the star Indian cricketer missed the five-match Test series against England earlier in the year due to personal reasons. Kohli has played just one Test match in 2024 which was the New Year clash against South Africa in Cape Town.

Virat Kohli’s Battle With Jasprit Bumrah

According to a report by Sportstar, Kohli faced Bumrah in the nets as the Indian team had a full-throttle training session. One instance saw Bumrah trap Kohli on the pads with an in-swinger. While Bumrah appealed for a LBW and celebrated the dismissal with a ‘celebrappeal’ and calling for a review, Kohli was not convinced he was out. The former India captain showed Bumrah that the ball was going down the leg stump.

The same report stated that Kohli also faced 24-year-old net bowler Gurnoor Brar, who has been brought into the set-up to help India prepare for the threat of Nahid Rana. The 6.5-feet- tall pacer troubled Kohli with extra bounce while the Indian batting legend tried to take him on the front foot.

Who is Gurnoor Brar?

The 24-year-old pacer from Punjab has played five first-class matches and one List-A and T20 match each in his career. He is part of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL and made his debut against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Mohali in the 2023 season. He bowled three overs in that match and gave away 42 runs without taking any wicket.

In first-class cricket, he has seven wickets in five games while registering one dismissal in his only List A game.
