A person claiming to be the grandchild of the late talent manager Dr. Rey dela Cruz has surfaced online, alleging that their grandfather’s d@@th is connected to the controversial case of Pepsi Paloma, the 1980s actress whose tragic life and d@@th remain a topic of public intrigue.
Pepsi Paloma, born Delia Dueñas Smith, was an iconic figure in Philippine cinema during the 1980s. Her career took a dark turn when she accused comedians Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D’Horsie of assaulting her in a hotel room. Months after the controversy, Pepsi died at 18, with her d@@th ruled as suicide.
Dr. Rey dela Cruz, who managed Pepsi’s career, also passed away years later, sparking speculation about the connection between his d@@th and the unresolved controversies surrounding Pepsi’s case.
Director Darryl Yap, known for his provocative storytelling, shared a message on Facebook from an individual claiming to be Dela Cruz’s grandchild.
“Let me introduce myself, apo po ako ni Dr. Rey dela Cruz, ang talent manager ni Pepsi. Ang lola ko, si Leoncia Dela Cruz, ay panganay na kapatid ni Dr. Rey. Meron ako information from a credible source from the National Police na ang pagkamatay ng lolo Rey ko ay connected sa pagkamatay ni Ms. Delia Smith,” the individual wrote.
The message did not provide detailed evidence but hinted at a possible link between Dela Cruz’s d@@th and Pepsi’s controversial case.
The revelations come as Darryl Yap prepares for the release of his upcoming film, ‘The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma.’ Scheduled to debut in 2025, the movie aims to delve into the life, controversy, and tragic d@@th of the young actress.
Pepsi’s case drew widespread attention in the 1980s, with some accusing Dela Cruz of exploiting the controversy to promote his talent. Supporters of the accused comedians have long dismissed the claims, while others have called for a deeper investigation into the events leading up to Pepsi’s d@@th.
Pepsi’s d@@th on May 31, 1985, remains one of the Philippine entertainment industry’s most enduring mysteries. The renewed interest sparked by Yap’s film and the allegations from Dela Cruz’s purported grandchild could lead to further scrutiny of the case.
