MANILA — It’s taken over a year, but a dark truth that harks back to the opening week of “Kadenang Ginto” has finally unraveled in a heartbreaking scene on Monday.

In the November 18 episode of the afternoon drama, Romina (Beauty Gonzales) finally confirmed that her husband, Robert (Albert Martinez), is the biological father of their daughter, Cassie (Francine Diaz).

The positive result of a DNA test she had commissioned meant that Robert was her unknown assailant that resulted in Cassie’s birth, prior to the Mondragon patriarch marrying Romina and subsequently adopting the child as his own.

Romina had long been in denial of the possibility, despite numerous evidence pointing to Robert, including a cufflink recovered at the scene of the crime.

That new evidence prompted Romina to seek another DNA test, after an initial one previously showed no biological links between Cassie and Robert. The first result was falsified by Daniela (Dimples Romana), to protect her father and her own interest as a Mondragon heiress.

Romina’s discovery of the truth happened just minutes before her renewal of vows with Robert, who had just recently turned up alive after being long though dead due to an accident at sea.

A preview for upcoming episodes of “Kadenang Ginto” shows Romina pushing through with the wedding, but trading her silver dress for a gold gown that marks her turn as a vengeful bride.

The climactic scene on Monday is the latest pivotal turn in “Kadenang Ginto,” which has remained the No. 1 television show in its time slot, on top of being a social media favorite, since its October 2018 debut.
