The recent incident involving a security guard kicking a young Sampaguita flower vendor at an SM mall has sparked outrage, not only among the public but also among Filipino celebrities. The shocking video, which quickly went viral on social media, shows a security guard forcibly kicking the young vendor, who appears to be a child, as part of an altercation with mall authorities.
Celebrities from various sectors have expressed their anger and dismay over the incident, calling for accountability and justice for the vendor, especially considering the vendor’s age and vulnerability. Many have used their platforms to voice their concerns about how security personnel should behave, particularly when dealing with minors and marginalized individuals.
Actress and Advocate for Children’s Rights, Angel Locsin, was one of the first to react, condemning the security guard’s actions. On her social media, she stated: “No one should be treated this way, especially a child. We need to treat others with dignity, regardless of their status in life. I stand with the Sampaguita vendor and all those who are unfairly treated.”
Comedian Vice Ganda, known for his advocacy for human rights and dignity, also shared his thoughts. He posted: “We must always remember that kindness and respect cost nothing. These actions should not be tolerated. A child or any person deserves respect, regardless of their job or position in society.”
Singer and TV personality, Sharon Cuneta, likewise shared her concerns, calling for justice for the young vendor. “It’s heartbreaking to see this kind of behavior, especially towards children who are only trying to make a living. The security guard’s actions were completely uncalled for, and we need to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Other celebrities, such as Jodi Sta. Maria and Dingdong Dantes, also voiced their concerns, stressing the importance of empathy and compassion in dealing with vulnerable individuals, particularly those working in difficult conditions.
The public outcry from celebrities has added fuel to the growing demand for justice, as the incident raises important questions about how vendors, particularly young ones, are treated in public spaces. Many are calling on SM management to take immediate action to address the situation and ensure that their security personnel are properly trained to handle such situations with respect and sensitivity.
As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a reminder of the power of social media in amplifying voices and sparking change, with many celebrities using their influence to demand a more just and compassionate society for all.
