Richard Frank Icasiano Gomez, popularly known as Richard Gomez, was born on April 7, 1966, in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. He is the only child of race car driver Eddie Kelly Gomez and actress Josephine Icasiano, who was famously known by her stage name, Stella Suarez, in the 1960s. His cousin, Stella Suarez Jr. (also known as Pinky Suarez), was adopted by his parents and raised as his sibling. After his parents separated, Gomez was raised by his grandmother.

Before entering show business, Gomez worked at McDonald’s, where he was discovered by talent manager Douglas Quijano.
