Jake Zyrus Opens Up About Childhood Trauma

JAKE ZYRUS – The singer, formerly known as Charice Pempengco, opened up about his painful childhood in his 2018  book, I Am Jake. Recently, parts of the book spread on social media, bringing attention again to what he went through while growing up.

Jake shared that he was molested by a close family member when he was just six years old. This happened while he was staying at his grandmother’s house. He remembered being called over by his uncle, who was drawing at the time, and then being led into a room. Even though he felt something was wrong, he couldn’t stop it.

At first, Jake thought it was just one time, but it kept happening for a year, especially when his mother was not around. Sometimes, other family members were nearby but didn’t know what was going on. His uncle threatened him to stay quiet, saying bad things would happen if he told anyone.

When Jake Zyrus was 21, he finally had the courage to tell his mother about it. But instead of believing him, she accused him of lying. Her reaction hurt him deeply and strained their relationship.

After releasing his book, the singer said writing it was emotional but important. The book talks about his childhood struggles, his identity, money problems, and personal challenges. He sees it as more than just a story of strength—it’s about discovering himself.

Now, seven years later, people are talking about Jake’s past again. A Facebook post sharing parts of his book has gone viral, getting thousands of reactions and shares. Many people have shown support for Jake, praising his bravery. Some shared their own painful childhood experiences, while others criticized his mother for not supporting him.
