Darryl Yap addressed the issues being thrown at his upcoming movie

Director Darryl Yap spoke about mentioning veteran comedian-host Vic Sotto in the teaser of his Pepsi Paloma movie.



The controversial director has been gaining attention online because of the teaser of his upcoming movie. From the time Direk Darryl announced that he would be making a movie about the late actress, many people raised their eyebrows.

One by one, the director introduced the cast members of his film which stirred different opinions from the online community. The buzz even became louder when the teaser was released.

In the teaser which was less than a minute, the character of Charito Solis, played by veteran actress Gina Alajar was questioning the character of Pepsi Paloma, played by young actress Rhed Bustamante if she was really r@ped by Vic Sotto.

Fans and supporters of the Eat Bulaga host cried foul. They criticized Direk Darryl Yap for mentioning one of the members of the iconic TVJ trio. Even Kapuso journalist Arnold Clavio scrutinized the director for “dragging” the name of the veteran comedian-host into his film.

In a Facebook post on December 6, Direk Darryl addressed the issues being raised by netizens because of his film, including the fact that Vic Sotto’s name was mentioned.

About Sir Vic Sotto, I’m not sure whether to offer an apology for his name being mentioned in the film,” the director said. Direk Darryl added that as a public figure involved in this public story, it should be understood that it will inevitably resurface.

My role as a filmmaker isn’t to pass judgment or provoke—it’s to tell the story as it happened, with honesty and respect for the facts,” he stressed. The filmmaker also said that through this movie, he is attempting to shed light on a controversy that keeps on emerging.

Direk Darryl Yap stressed that he respects his fellow artists and the pillars of the industry but his highest respect is for the truth in his heART (with the emphasis on the last three letters).
