Terrafirma Dyip center Christian Standhardinger has retired from professional basketball.
The Filipino-German center’s retirement announcement was shared on Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Facebook page on Thursday morning.
Dyip team governor Bobby Rosales confirmed in an interview with Spin.ph that Standhardinger has informed them of his decision to retire from professional basketball.
“He notified us that he is planning to retire already,” Rosales said. “Magre-retire na lang daw siya. We talked to him, pero mahirap kapag ayaw nang maglaro.”
“Anong gagawin natin? Kahit na anong pilit mo, kung ayaw nang maglaro, e,” he added. “We respect his decision.”
The 35-year-old Standhardinger began his PBA career in 2018 with the San Miguel Beermen, where he won two PBA titles before being traded to the NorthPort Batang Pier a year later.
The Batang Pier then sent Standhardinger to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in 2021, where he contributed to two PBA championship wins.
Standhardinger later joined the Terrafirma Dyip via trade earlier this year, playing six games for the squad before being sidelined with a knee injury.
Before his PBA career, Standhardinger played professionally for German teams Mitteldeutscher BC, Ehingen Urspring, and SC Rasta Vechta and also suited up as an import for Hong Kong Eastern.
Standhardinger also served as a naturalized player for Gilas Pilipinas multiple times, including during their gold medal victories in the 2017, 2019, and 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
