Vice Ganda garnered various reactions because of his acceptance speech for this award
The Metro Manila Film Festival jurors awarded Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda the MMFF 50 Special Jury Prize, and here is the story behind it.
After many years, Vice returned to doing an entry for the annual film festival. This truly made his fans so happy. The fact that his movie And The Breadwinner Is is the current top-grossing MMFF film for this year shows that moviegoers missed watching him on the big screen.
During the Gabi Ng Parangal, Vice was given a special award. His acceptance speech garnered different reactions from those who attended the event, the online community, and even from the jurors who decided to give him this award.

According to the article in PEP, MMFF 2024 Best Actor Dennis Trillo did not read the citation when the award was given to Vice Ganda. As a result, the It’s Showtime host wondered why he was given that kind of recognition.
Vice, with his usual humor, said, “Hahabaan ko na to kasi baka itong award na ito, ibig sabihin hindi ako magbe-Best Actor. Baka ito yung award sa mga first runner-up. Yung baka sayang naman yung outfit at saka sikat naman siya, paakyatin na natin siya for star value of the moment.”
People close to the comedian-host said that this is who Vice is; he really says what he thinks and feels. Some jurors were said to be offended by what he said because their deliberation for this award started at 9:00 A.M. and ended at 4:30 P.M. It took them that long to come up with the decision.

“Ang dinig namin ay na-offend ang ilang miyembro ng jury, dahil ang haba ng oras na nagugol para pag-usapan itong award na ito, pagkatapos iyun lang pala ang napala nila,” PEP writer Gorgy Rula shared.
Some sources said that the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP) was the one who requested the MMFF committee to give Vice a special award or special citation because of the box-office result. The debate for this took long until they came up with a decision.
Aside from Vice Ganda, Topakk director Richard Somes also had the same scenario on stage when he said that he did not understand the FPJ Memorial Award for Excellence award that was given to their movie.
