Did Claudine Barretto Throw Shade at Jodi Sta. Maria? Controversial Interview Explored

Claudine Barretto seems to throw shade at Jodi Sta. Maria, her former husband, Raymart Santiago’s current girlfriend. In her recent interview for her new GMA-7 show Lovers/Liars, the actress claimed that she and her ex haven’t met to talk probably because of the “new relationship,” adding it wasn’t a good influence on the actor. Though Claudine cleared that she didn’t mention any names, many believed she was referring to Jodi.

Claudine Barretto’s Interview about Raymart Santiago That Turns Controversial

In an interview with Philippine Portal Entertainment (PEP.ph) for the grand mediacon for Lovers/Liars, Claudine Barretto talked about her ongoing annulment case with Raymart Santiago when asked by the press. The 44-year-old revealed that her ex’s deadline is continuously delayed, and he’s now trying to get custody of their kids.

She then stressed her surprise when she learned that Raymart wanted custody, considering Santino and Sabina are already 16 and 19, respectively. “Hindi ko alam kung bakit gusto niya ng custody,” she said. (I don’t know why he wants custody.)

Claudine, known for her acting versatility, added that she and Raymart have no communication and only see each other at the mediation. Though she said they used to talk before, she claimed it’s now impossible, probably due to the new relationship.

As her last statement intrigued the press, they asked what it had to do with her meeting with Raymart.

“Kasi, hindi magandang influence sa kanya, compared sa isa dati,” she said.

(Because it’s not a good influence on him, compared to the previous one).

When asked if she was referring to Jodi Sta. Maria, Claudine simply said, “Wala akong sinasabi (I’m not saying anything).”

She then chose not to give any further details about it so that the promo for her new show wouldn’t turn negative. As their annulment case is now in court, those are the only things she wants to say, though she later claimed that he didn’t want to give the house she had worked hard for since the show Mula sa Puso was airing in the late 1990s to her.

Claudine said everything would come out soon, and she might even hold a press conference for that, and people would know.

This wasn’t the first time Claudine Barretto swiped at Jodi Sta. Maria, after the latter started a romance with Raymart Santiago. So, does she dislike the Silent Superstar for her estranged husband?

In 2021, Claudine revealed that Raymart became a “negligent father” after starting dating Jodi.

For starters, Jodi and Raymart made their romance public in October 2020. A few months later, Claudine revealed that she was “displeased” with the two for breaking their promise, though she still wished them happiness.

In an interview with Abante News Online via Yahoo!, she said the two could have told their kids first about their relationship before making it public. Sabina was even left upset about her father after learning about their romance on social media.

 

Claudine also claimed that she and Jodi used to be close friends before this controversy began and ended up calling her to air her frustrations.

“I said, ‘Jodi, I asked you for one thing, that you tell me first so I can tell my kids.’ I knew this was going to happen because they were both actors,” Claudine detailed. “I said, ‘This is what I am trying to avoid, for my kids to see pictures [of you together] before you tell me.”

She furthered that Raymart and Jodie sat down with the latter’s son, Thirdy, to tell him about their new relationship, calling it rude that they forgot about her kids.

“Go ahead, be happy. [But] don’t forget your responsibility to my children, Raymart. And I can see that Jodi is not a good influence on him,” Claudine continued. “And I’m in disbelief; I don’t understand how Jodi did this. That they didn’t even bother telling me, and they forgot about my kids… Now, I know you will never have the best interest of my children at heart. He was a better father when they weren’t together yet.”

 

Though no one knows what’s really happening between Claudine Barretto and Jodi Sta. Maria and Raymart Santiago, behind closed doors, it looks like the former’s complaints are coming from her being a mother. Claudine may want nothing but the best for her kids and may only be fighting for their rights. By the looks of it, she only wants Raymart to be there for her children. However, talking about it in public is maybe not necessary.
