“He Will Be Missed.”

Karylle posted on Instagram a few photos from the wake of her father along with a heartfelt tribute in the caption. It revealed Dr. Modesto’s character as a loving patriarch, a caring doctor, and even a dedicated Boy Scout.

“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my dad, Papa M, Doc, Dr. ‘M,’ Moy, Tito M…He was a beloved man who lived life fully. Always a presence in a room, while also making sure everyone felt seen and heard. He, too, was always seen and heard with his handsome ‘cute’ face, youthful porma, and booming voice,” Karylle writes.

Karylle also includes a personal anecdote about Dr. Modesto’s life and how he was a big fan of his daughter. She reveals that her father would have been one of the Boy Scouts of The Philippines delegates sent to Marathon, Greece for the 11th World Scout Jamboree in 1963. Sadly, the 24 Boy Scouts met their tragic demise when their plane crashed into the sea because of heavy rain and turbulence. In 1964, The City Council of Quezon City decided to rename 24 streets in the Kamuning and Roxas districts after the fallen Boy Scouts.

Karylle says, “A boy scout who was supposed to be one of the streets in the Jamboree circle in Quezon City, I am grateful to Lolo Benny and Lola Thelma for not allowing him to go to jamboree despite him already having the funding from San Miguel where lolo worked. It was a pretty great life extension.”

“It means so much to me that he saw my play 4 times (four!). Little Shop of Horrors was our favorite movie and, like him, a happy part of my childhood. It breaks my heart that I couldn’t have spent more time with him lately. But as my best friend, Diane, told me, our last moments together don’t define the lifetime that I’ve loved him. I will always love and miss him…Thank you Lord for Papa M,” ends Karylle’s tribute.

Karylle starred as Audrey in the Manila run of the musical Little Shop of Horrors. As a sold-out showcase, the musical was extended for one more weekend by the end of July. Karylle alternated playing the role of Audrey with Sue Ramirez.
