Leyte Fourth District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez slammed as “baseless” allegations linking her husband Richard Gomez and brother Manuel ‘Matt’ Torres to the Eastern Visayas dr*g trade.

Richard is the incumbent mayor of Ormoc City, while Matt serves as Leyte Fourth District board member.

Lucy gave this response following the testimony, before the Senate committee on public order, of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8 Chief Inspector Leo Laraga, who led the police raid inside the cell of slain Mayor Ronald Espinosa Sr. of Albuera, Leyte.

During the the Senate public-order committee meeting this Thursday, November 10, Laraga alleged that Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez, Baybay Vice Mayor Mike Cari, Leyte Representative Vicente Veloso, and Leyte Governor Leopoldo Petilla were government officials involved in Kerwin Espinosa’s dr*g group.

Kerwin Espinosa was earlier tagged by his father, the slain Mayor Espinosa, as a “big-time drug lord in Eastern Visayas.” Some observers say the mayor may have been under duress to call out his own son in the dr*g war.

In a text message sent from London, United Kingdom, to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Leyte Fourth District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez categorically denied allegations that her husband Richard is a “dr*g protector.”

Lucy’s brief but firm reply read: “Offensive, baseless, and untrue.”

Lucy also firmly denied that her brother Matt was involved in the same dr*g trade.

Last Monday, November 7, GMA News Online published the six-page sworn affidavit of slain Albuera Mayor Espinosa, who allegedly named 50 individuals as “protectors” of his son’s illegal dr*g activities in Eastern Visayas.

Mayor Espinosa’s list included former Department of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Matt Torres, among other government officials.

Mayor Espinosa’s statement, which cannot now be verified as his own, claimed that his list was based on his “personal knowledge” as well as on a “pocket notebook” in his possession.
