Margarita Fores’ sudden death was due to cardiac arrest, an official statement sent to the media revealed.

The celebrated chef’s only son, Amado Fores, confirmed her passing in Hong Kong on February 11. She was 65.

“My mom touched so many lives. Thank you all for the love and support you have given me and my family during this difficult time,” Amado said in a press release.

“Your kindness and the memories you’ve shared about my mom give me comfort and strength,” he added.

Earlier, Amado also shared the details of Margarita’s wake services from February 17 to February 19, with February 17, Monday, dedicated for her hospitality teams. As such, her restaurants Lusso and Grace Park will be on limited hours beginning 5pm, while Cibo will be on limited staff.

Margarita, who birthed original restaurant concepts, including CIBO, Lusso, and Grace Park, was named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016.

Since her passing, celebrities and Filipinos worldwide have joined in mourning the death of a culinary icon.
