Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday urged voters to discern this 2025 May midterm elections and vote for candidates based on their accomplishments and platforms, not on their family name.

“Ngayong halalan, pakinggan natin ang mga pangako ng mga pulitiko, tingnan natin ang nagawa nila noon, ano ang kapasidad, ano ang abilidad,” Duterte said told the media.

“Huwag natin iboto dahil apelyido ay Duterte, anak ni Digong. Tingnan natin kung ano ang nagawa at pinakaimportante sa lahat kung ano ang kaniyang mga pangako na pinanindigan niya, ano ang kaniyang mga gagawin para sa bansa,” she added.

Do not vote just because they carry the surname Duterte or they are the children of Digong. Scrutinize what they have done and what are their plans for the country.)

 

Digong is the vice president’s father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.  He is the current chairperson of PDP-Laban.

During the political party’s campaign kick-off on February 13, the vice president sent a video message endorsing the PDP-Laban senatorial candidates.

“Ako ay nagtitiwalang nasa taong bayan ang kapangyarihang baguhin ang kasalukuyang takbo ng ating bayan sa pamamagitan ng pagboto sa mga taong karapat-dapat, tapat at matiyagang maglilingkod sa bayan,” the Vice President said.

On Wednesday, the Commission of Elections (Comelec) said 69% or 4.8 million ballots have been printed so far.

Data from Comelec showed that 34.8 million or 50.97% of voters are female, slightly higher than males with 33.5 million or 49.03%.

Meanwhile, millennials comprise the majority of voters with 33.74%.
