Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil’s relationship has been put in the spotlight again as the local entertainment industry tries to recover from shock in the aftermath of celebrity couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s breakup, which the couple confirmed on Thursday, Nov. 30.

According to netizens, the Soberano and Gil love team, collectively known as “LizQuen,” is now the last one standing in Philippine filmdom’s trinity of love teams.” Prior to KathNiel’s separation, couple Nadine Lustre and James Reid, known as “JaDine,” called it quits in January.

Despite the rumors that LizQuen have also broken up after Soberano’s former manager Ogie Diaz broke the “news” on his YouTube channel in May, no official statement from the couple has been released confirming the hearsay, making fans hold on to their hope that the two are still together.

In July, Gil debunked the rumors by assuring fans that he and Soberano were okay and just busy with their personal endeavors. “We are good, we are good,” he brushed the speculations aside.

“I am busy with all my projects. She is busy with all her projects naman. She is focusing on international work, which is super good for her. Kahit super busy kami, we still support each other no matter what,” Gil added.

In September, Soberano broke her silence and expressed support for her boyfriend, noting that she and Gil only met occasionally because of the distance.

“I’m really happy to see him flourishing. The project he’s working on right now is something he’s producing himself so I’m really proud of him for that, very supportive,” she said, referring to Gil’s comeback film “I Am Not Big Bird.”

“Every once in a while, I think occasionally mostly because we’re both, like, constantly flying. I’ve been in the [United] States for a while and then I came back, and he’s been flying. So, yeah, it’s very seldom now,” Soberano said on meeting up with Gil.

Liza Soberano’s stand on Filipino love teams

Soberano received unwarranted hate when she first opened up about the reality of Filipino love teams, noting the pressure of being in one as the fans expect celebrities to be together in real life.

“Some love teams don’t actually date in real life, but you’re not allowed to say that. The thing is, in the beginning of the love team, too, you’re not allowed to say you are dating because you want to keep the fans kind of hungry for you guys to be actually dating,” she noted.

“So it becomes this whole thing where your career and your personal life, the lines between the two, get blurred, and people just don’t know what reality is. And in the Philippines the only way to be a big star really, if you’re not a singer, if you’re an actor, is to be in a love team,” Soberano added.
