It was announced yesterday, October 24, that the Kimerald tandem is back for ABS-CBN’s upcoming teleserye Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin.

In fact, one of the top trending topics on Twitter yesterday was KIMERALD IS BACK, a sign that Kimerald fans are excited for their onscreen reunion!

The two stars have been in the limelight since Kim and Gerald joined Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Season 1 in 2006. The Chinese Cutie ng Cebu was named as the Big Winner while Gerald landed in third place.

Before the return of the Philippine love team of Kimerald, PEP traces the journey of Kim and Gerald through their TV and movie projects over the past decade.

2006. Remember their first project together after their Pinoy Big Brother stint when they took lead in the first installment of the defunct fantasy-romantic drama anthology Love Spell?

Their episode was titled My Boy, My Girl wherein Kim’s mean girl character Stephanie made Gerald’s character Simon her boy toy. Upon learning that she was just playing a trick on him, Simon cursed Stephanie. When she woke up the next day, Stephanie found herself in the body of a man!

Kim and Gerald would later on star in two more installments of Love Spell that year: Charm and Crystal and Pasko Na, Santa Ko.

In between their stints for Love Spell, Kim and Gerald were also able to do episodes for Your Song presents.

They brought to life two songs: “Bitin Sa ‘Yo and Alive.

At the same time, the two were included in the then newly-launched sitcom Aalog-Alog.

In the first few months of being in show business, the Kimerald tandem was lucky enough to be given major roles in their first movie First Day High, along with Maja Salvador, Geoff Eigenmann, and Jason Abalos.

In the film, Kim played the brainy Indi while Gerald represented sporty students through his basketball player character MJ.

Kim and Gerald were also tapped to prove their dramatic prowess in their own episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK).

Titled “Bus,” the story is about two teenagers who decided to elope and faced the consequences of their aggressiveness to fight for their feelings.

2007.
Kim and Gerald became even bigger stars the following year.

Of course, who would forget their first ever drama series: Sana Maulit Muli.

The story is about childhood sweethearts Jasmine (Kim) and Travis (Gerald) who were reunited but were separated again after the untimely death of Jasmine.

Given a chance to change the destiny by a certain Mang Andres (Michael de Mesa), Travis travelled back in time to save Jasmine from dying. Mang Andres warned Travis that he won’t be able to change what is already destined to happen.

However, their love story still had a tragic end when Travis ended up dying after saving Jasmine’s life.

But then, Jasmine was also able to travel back in time. She made peace with Travis and she ended up marrying him.

After their first drama series, Kim and Gerald were given their first solo movie on that same year.

In this movie titled I’ve Fallen For You, Kim and Gerald’s characters were both named Alex Reyes. While they thought that it is only a coincidence, there is an underlying secret about their families regarding their names.

Though they did not do another primetime series that year, Kim and Gerald were kept busy by their weekly shows.

They guested in two Your Song episodes: “Someday” and “Ngiti.”

After they did a guesting in one episode of Let’s Go, Kim and Gerald were included in the second chapter of the series titled Gokada Go along with Alex Gonzaga and Matteo Guidicelli.

Finally, they starred in Love Spell presents Cindy-rella, which lasted for three months. Usually, Love Spell installments only lasted for four episodes.

2008. The following year, Kim and Gerald returned to primetime playing supporting roles in Sineserye presents: Maligno starring Claudine Barretto.

Afterwards, Kimerald topbilled the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama My Girl.

In this romantic-comedy drama series, Gerald played Julian, a rich guy who was tasked by his grandfather to find his missing cousin. He met Jasmine (Kim) and hired her to pretend as his cousin because of their resemblance. The two later on fell in love.

Because of My Girl‘s success and their chemistry, ABS-CBN decided to give them a follow-up project through Your Song presents My Only Hope, which ran for three months.

This served also as Xian Lim’s first TV project, who would later on be paired with Kim in several projects.

In this show, Kim played the Miss Sunshine character of April while Gerald played the emo Keeno. They fell in love despite their different status and principles in life.

However, their love story had a tragic ending when Keeno died because of leukemia.

By the end of the year, Kim and Gerald topbilled the Class Picture segment of the Metro Manila Film Fest entry Shake Rattle and Roll X.

2009.
The following year, Kim and Gerald took on more mature roles in the primetime drama series Tayong Dalawa, wherein they figured in a love triangle with Jake Cuenca. The series aired from January-September 2009.

The show revolved around the twin soldiers Dave (Jake) and JR (Gerald), and how they fought for the love of Audrey (Kim).

This is also the first time when Kim and Gerald did a love scene and portrayed a married couple during the show’s last few weeks.

However, the show shocked viewers when it veered away from the usual predictable ending. Instead of having the lead stars living happily ever after, Audrey died in the end due to a heart attack.

2010. Kim and Gerald started the year with a new movie titled Paano Na Kaya, which was directed by their Tayong Dalawa director Ruel Bayani.

In this movie which is somewhat similar to their “Someday” Your Song episode, Kim plays Mae, a girl who is secretly in love with her best friend Bogs (Gerald). She is willing to do everything just to make him happy.

When Bogs broke up with his girlfriend (Melissa Ricks), Mae suddenly confessed her feelings for him and opened the possibility of the two of them having a relationship.

However, Mae became confused as she realized that she might just be a rebound.

Meanwhile, because of Tayong Dalawa‘s success, Kim and Gerald were immediately given a follow-up primetime project titled Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo. The series also featured Kris Aquino in her comeback teleserye.

In the series, Kim played Gwen, a rich rebellious woman while Gerald played Robbie, a responsible young man. From a dog-cat relationship, Gwen and Robbie found themselves falling in love with each other.

This is the teleserye where the Kimerald tandem played a full-time married couple, since it was only towards the end of Tayong Dalawa when they became married.

Later that year, Kim and Gerald starred anew in another movie titled Till My Heartaches End.

In this film, Kim played Agnes, a nursing graduate who is inexperienced when it comes to matters about the heart. She meets the overconfident Powie (Gerald), her total opposite.

Powie meant the world to Agnes but they later on realized that they are meant to go on different paths individually.

During the press conference of this movie, Gerald and Kim broke down into tears and admitted that they had a four-year special relationship.

It was also revealed that Gerald was having death threats at that time when he was being linked to actress Bea Alonzo.

The movie became their last solo film, heralding the love team breakup of Kimerald.

2011 ONWARDS. For the next four years, Kim and Gerald would reunite onscreen in some special occasions despite being paired with other actors in separate TV and movie projects.

In February 2011, Kim and Gerald were paired in the Valentine episode of Your Song presents Kim wherein Kim became the featured artist for 13 weeks.

In November 2012, as part of Star Magic’s 20th anniversary, Kim and Gerald were paired once again in a segment of the movie 24/7 in Love.

Kim and Gerald were also tapped to perform in production numbers of the Kapamilya variety show ASAP.

2016 REUNION. Now that their love team is celebrating its tenth year, Kim and Gerald will finally reunite in a TV series.

It was announced yesterday, October 24, that the Kimerald tandem will be starring in a new drama series titled Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin.

Gerald promised about this new project, “Most of all, this is going to be magical.”

Kim also admitted during the announcement that she initially had hesitations about accepting the project, but Star Magic head honcho Johnny Manahan convinced her to do it.
