Jennylyn Mercado on Her First TV Appearance: “I Didn’t Realize I Was Jealous”

Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado shared her first television appearance alongside award-winning actor John Lloyd Cruz. In a recent vlog released by GMA Network, Jennylyn reminisced about her early experiences in the television industry, including her debut in the series “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.”

“Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” is an ABS-CBN teleserye that aired from 2002 to 2003, featuring John Lloyd Cruz alongside Lorna Tolentino and Bea Alonzo. According to Jennylyn, that scene with John Lloyd marked her initial foray into television as a guest. At that time, she was not yet part of StarStruck, and her role was given to her merely due to the needs of the scene with John Lloyd.

“Tita Becky [Aguila] was there, and she just said, ‘We need someone to act with John Lloyd.’ I thought I was just an extra, walking around, maybe just saying hi or bumping into him. I didn’t realize I would be part of a scene where Bea would get jealous of me and I even had English lines,” Jennylyn recalled.

Jennylyn further expressed that she did not expect her performance in that scene to be significant. Although she did not contribute much to the main storylines of the series, she learned the value of every opportunity in television and the showbiz industry.

More than a decade later, Jennylyn and John Lloyd reunited for the film “Just The 3 of Us” in 2016, a romantic comedy that became popular among audiences. Jennylyn admitted that she would always remember her first TV performance and the subsequent chance to work with John Lloyd in the movie.
