In early 2019, the Philippine entertainment industry was abuzz with a public exchange between two prominent figures: Kris Aquino and Gretchen Barretto. The tension between them became evident when Gretchen openly supported Nicko Falcis, Kris Aquinoâs former project manager, amid legal disputes between Aquino and Falcis. Barrettoâs support included sharing articles favorable to Falcis and expressing admiration for his courage in speaking out.
In response, Kris Aquino chose a measured approach. She advised her followers not to retaliate against Gretchen, emphasizing the importance of maintaining respect. Aquino acknowledged Barrettoâs past support for her mother, Cory Aquino, during the 1986 elections, suggesting that this history warranted a respectful stance despite current disagreements.
The situation escalated when Gretchen Barretto accused Kris Aquino of collaborating with her sister, Claudine Barretto, to tarnish her reputation. Gretchen claimed that Kris had contacted Claudine to seek assistance in undermining her, framing it as a familial alliance against her.
Amid these exchanges, Gretchen Barretto also mocked Kris Aquinoâs alleged threats towards Nicko Falcis. She referenced purported statements by Aquino, adding a layer of personal animosity to the public discourse.
The public nature of this feud highlighted the complexities of relationships within the entertainment industry, where personal disputes often become subjects of widespread media coverage and public scrutiny.

Kris Aquino tells follower not to call Gretchen a âmistressâ
MANILA â She may not have sided with Kris Aquino in her legal battle against businessman Nicko Falcis but the former TV host does not like calling Gretchen Barretto a âmistress.â
Aquino made this statement when she responded on Instagram to a netizen who called Barretto a mistress.
The Instagram user said Barretto should just stay off Aquinoâs legal issues against Falcis and should just mind her own business.
Explaining at length her position on the matter, Aquino said: âGranted she may hate me â but donât you think the 2 facing criminal charges are amplifying her in order to distract peopleâs anger from them? Why do you think hindi ako pumapatol sa kanya? Kasi hindi nya ninakawan ang mga anak ko.â
Aquino then requested the netizen not to call Barretto a mistress especially because her mom, late President Corazon Aquino, had a soft spot for Barrettoâs partner, Tonyboy Cojuangco.
âAt the end of the day, her daughterâs father is still my second cousin. His dad & my mom are 1st cousins. His lolo & my lolo are brothers. So dedma na lang sa rants because i love my mom & mom always had a soft spot for Tonyboy. So please follow my example? Para na lang sa memory ng mom ko,â she said.
