Nora Aunor still feels regret after losing her singing voice following cosmetic surgery in Japan 14 years ago.
The Superstar claims that the botched job was done “on purpose” to ruin her voice.
In an interview uploaded on Maricel Soriano’s YouTube account on August 17, 2024, Nora narrated what happened to her in Japan in 2010:
“Ang pinaka-love ko talaga ang pag-awit. Kung hindi dahil sa pagkanta ay hindi ako makakatulong sa pamilya ko at hindi rin ako makikilala ng mga tao.
“Kaya nung masira yung boses ko…”
The Superstar then said without naming names, “Sinira nila, e. Parang sinadya. Kaya hanggang ngayon, hindi ako nakakanta.”
NORA AUNOR: LOSING HER VOICE
The 2022 National Artist for film and broadcast arts recalled that she was brought to Japan in order to endorse a facial clinic.
“Nasa States ako nun, e. May pumunta sa akin at sabi dadalhin ako sa Japan kasi kukunin nila ako mag-e-endorso ng isang [facial clinic].
“Pagdating ko doon, pinahiga ako, pinatulog, paggising ko, wala na akong boses. Yun ang totoong nangyari doon. Hanggang ngayon, wala na akong boses.”
Maricel asked if she filed a lawsuit against the clinic.
“Dinemanda ko pero ang boses ko hindi na [bumalik],” said Nora about her golden voice.
Maricel asked if there is still a possibility for doctors to repair the damage.
Nora explained: “Hindi na kasi nung umuwi ako ng Pilipinas tapos bumalik ako, hindi na rin nila na-operahan. Sayang nga, e.”
“Ngayon hindi na. Ang sabi kasi ng doctor noon, yung vocal cord hindi naman tinamaan pero malalim yung tinamaan sa akin.”
Nora admitted that she still misses singing. “Sayang nga, e, kasi kapag may kumakanta na nakikita ko, parang…”
Maricel answered for her, “Parang gusto mo sumali, di ba?”
Nora agreed by saying, “Gusto ko kumanta.”
Back in 2010, Nora said in an interview with ABS-CBN North American News Bureau that her lawyers filed a malpractice suit against the Japan clinic, but she did not elaborate on the details then.
