A 27-year-old Chinese actor apparently passed away on Jan. 30, the second day of Chinese New Year, after allegedly contracting influenza.

According to China Press, Liang Youcheng was said to have a common cold, but his condition deteriorated, leading to a central nervous system infection.

The actor then passed away on the second day of the Chinese New Year with no family members around him at the time.

Liang was known for his role in the Chinese drama “Echo for Her Voice”.

It has been speculated on the Chinese social media Weibo that Liang died from influenza A, though there has been no confirmation.

This is similar to the recent passing of Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, who passed away due to flu-related pneumonia.

Hong Kong media TVBS News reported that she died of pneumonia caused by influenza while in Japan.

It was reported that Hsu was not given a diagnosis during her first two hospital visits.

She was diagnosed with influenza on her third hospital visit and was provided with medication, but she was still not hospitalised.

Her condition took a turn for the worse that night, and her family called for an ambulance to take her to the hospital again.

However, she was pronounced dead at 7am on Feb. 2.

Shin Min Daily News reported that Hsu’s passing from pneumonia sparked a rush among Taiwanese to get the influenza vaccine, with Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control website temporarily going down on Feb. 3.

The city of Tainan also reportedly had all of its influenza vaccination slots filled up in less than three hours on the same da, despite having over 7,000 shots available initially.
